How to Celebrate New Years at Home for Couples and Friends

New Year’s Eve celebrations may be a lot different this year, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still celebrate the day and have a blast!

New Year’s Eve celebrations may be a lot different this year, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still celebrate the day and have a blast!

We have brought together a few fun and exciting tips for you to celebrate the New Year in all its glory. Read ahead and you are bound to have an eve you will remember for a very long time.

Exciting tips for celebrating New Year’s Eve

01. Have the prosecco flowing

This has to be at the top of everyone’s list of things you must do during New Year’s Eve. Pop that bottle of prosecco and let the good times roll!

Get creative with your drinks. After all, who doesn’t love to toast the New Year in style? Make sure you have a great selection of drinks, cocktails, and mocktails, and get the kids involved too by getting them to mix their mocktails.

02. Dress up for the occasion

Staying in your house is no excuse for not having to dress up. Take out that fancy dinner jacket and your favourite gown and keep things special.

03. A small bonfire in your garden

What better time to enjoy a serene evening under the stars than New Year’s Eve in Lockdown. Wrap up cozy, get out those warm blankets and snuggle under the winter starlit sky.

Have you got a fire pit? Blaze it up! Toast some mouth-watering marshmallows, roast some chestnuts, and sip on fine mulled wine. Nope, that’s not just for Christmas.

Finally, what better way to end the year than by making cool shapes with sparklers?

Top tip: Stick the sparklers with carrots to make them a bit safer for little hands.

04. Turn on the TV

You and your family members can enjoy the New Year celebrations by watching a movie together, getting cosy on the sofa with a bag of popcorn and sweets.

05. Look back on the year

Ok, so 2020 is not what any of us expected. However, there are always those memories that can be cherished. Which moments were the silver linings of your cloud? Look through photos and share memories with your family. Celebrate anything that you have accomplished, and maybe think of some goals for the year ahead!

06. Hook up with your family and friends through some Facetime or Zoom Calls

Make sure that you plan such an event some time in advance otherwise there might be a bit of carnage!

If you have other friends and family with children, use the time to play some games virtually. One of the best ones is shouting out an object that you have in the house. The first individual to return to the screen with that object gets a point. Most youngsters LOVE playing such a game. You may also dust off all those quiz skills that you gained and conduct a massive quiz contest.

07. Host your very own New Years Eve Family Dinner Party and a great spread

  • Let your children help you decide the menu and have them create menus for the table.
  • Decorate the table and bring out your special crockery. Just because we are at home doesn’t mean we can’t have a fancy dinner!
  • Help the kids prepare a one-of-a-kind dessert.
  • Finish off by adding fresh flowers, napkins, a few scented candles and you are good to go.

08. Create your own 2020 Playlist

Create a playlist of the favourite family songs from 2020. If you have a resident DJ in the house, then he/she can create a great mashup for the whole family to dance the night away.

Have an early countdown and set-off some sparklers before the kids hit the bed. Let the music keep playing and the prosecco keep flowing as you bid adieu to a bittersweet 2020, with a romantic couple slow dance. Sounds magical, isn’t it?

09. New Year Games Night

There’s no need for anything extravagant, and this works particularly well if you have older children. Charades, Who Am I, Pictionary are great games, just to name a few. You should have a go at all the family favourites and win some serious bragging power.
